JAPAN: A Japanese lubricating oil manufacturer has launched a mineral refrigeration oil which the company claims is compatible with the majority of refrigerants.
Sunice Hybrid, developed by the Tokyo-based Japan Sun Oil Co, is said to be suitable for use with HFC and HFO refrigerants. Those specifically listed include R32, R134a, R404A, R407C, R410A, R407H, R449A, R454C, R513A, R1234ze and R1234yf.
The company says it can also be used with CO2 but cannot be used with ammonia and is “not recommended” for use with R600a (isobutane) and R290 (propane).
In addition, it is said that Sunice Hybrid can be used in virtually any installation, regardless of compressor or evaporation temperature, which have been using POE, PAG, and PVE oils. It is available in two viscosities – 32 and 46.
The product claims excellent lubricity and chemical stability within a patented technology that ensures good oil return.
Japan Sun Oil argues that having just one oil will simplify inventory management and, as the main component is mineral oil, it is not affected by unexpected shortages of synthetic oils.
The oil is said to have been in development since 2016 and was unveiled on Friday at the 2023 Guangzhou International Fresh Supply & Cold Chain Technology Equipment Exhibition in China.
